Rep. Beeler: Gov. Whitmer’s campaign speech rejects bipartisanship, presents no plan

State Rep. Andrew Beeler, R-Port Huron, on Thursday issued the following statement after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s annual State of the State address the night before:

“Gov. Whitmer’s latest national campaign speech tonight completely ignored the fact that Michigan is crashing and burning under her administration. Violent crime is up since she took office, the everyday cost of living keeps climbing, a vast majority of Michigan students can’t read or do math proficiently, and people are leaving the state. But Gov. Whitmer has no plan to address these deep-seated problems or grow our population, and even though the House of Representatives is evenly split between Republicans and Democrats, she won’t work across the aisle with Republicans.

“Instead, the governor keeps pushing a left-wing agenda that is popular with Democrat primary voters but yields destructive consequences for our state: higher taxes, higher electricity costs, and diminished education standards. These harmful policies will only encourage more people to move away. Instead of worrying about her national ambitions, Gov. Whitmer should worry about the people of Michigan and work with the people’s representatives to bring our state back from the brink.”
