State Rep. Nancy DeBoer (R-Holland) today voted in favor of a proposal that funds recreational projects in Ottawa County, including improvements to Winstrom Park Trails and the surrounding natural area.
The proposed $326,700 investment will support renovations to trails, boardwalks, and overlooks in Winstrom Park. The project will also include the installation of new benches, a trail kiosk, and educational signage to enhance environmental awareness and public engagement.
“We’re all so blessed to call beautiful West Michigan home, and these investments allow us to appreciate, celebrate, and experience our natural surroundings even more,” said DeBoer. “I’m proud to support projects that improve public access and recreation in Ottawa County because they strengthen our community and quality of life.”
Funding for the Winstrom Park project is part of House Bill 4392, which allocates a total of $41.7 million for outdoor development across the state. The bill includes funding for 17 land acquisition projects and 68 recreational development initiatives. All funding comes from the Natural Resources Trust Fund with no impact on the state’s General Fund.
“Investing in our parks is investing in our future,” said DeBoer. “These are the kinds of improvements that make West Michigan such a special place to live and visit.”
The House approved the bill today, and it now advances to the Senate for further consideration.
