Rep. Schmaltz: Local non-profits awarded $2.5 million in state grants

State Rep. Kathy Schmaltz today announced substantial grants for two non-profits that help vulnerable people in the Jackson area.

Jackson Interfaith Shelter and Residents in Action, Inc. were each awarded funding through the Community Center Grant Program administered by the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity. Jackson Interfaith Shelter will receive $2 million. Residents in Action will receive $500,000.

“The generous grants awarded to Jackson Interfaith Shelter and Residents in Action represent a significant investment in our community’s well-being,” said Schmaltz, R-Jackson. “With $2.5 million dedicated to supporting vital organizations and their efforts to address homelessness and uplift vulnerable people, these grants will drive positive change.”

Michigan’s Community Center Grant Program was funded with federal dollars available through the American Rescue Plan.
