Michigan House passes legislation co-sponsored by Rep. Pavlov to create firearms education program for schools
RELEASE|June 11, 2025

Last Wednesday, the Michigan House of Representatives passed legislation co-sponsored by State Rep. Joseph G. Pavlov (R-Smiths Creek) to create a course in firearms education for grades 6 to 12. House Bill 4285 would instruct the Michigan Department of Education to work with the Department of Natural Resources to make a model program of firearm safety instruction available to all public schools as an elective course.

“The goal of this legislation is simply to help more young people know how to safely and capably exercise their Second Amendment rights,” Pavlov said. “We want the next generation of leaders to be the kind of people who know the incredible responsibility and capabilities that come with operating a firearm. This bill will help make our communities safer.”

House Bill 4285 passed the chamber with overwhelmingly bipartisan support. It now moves to the Senate for further consideration.
