“Governing over state regulations and rule-making authority is one of the most important jobs a lawmaker can have,” said Wozniak, R-Shelby Township. “I’m honored that Speaker Hall entrusted me with committee assignments that will allow me to delve deeper into Michigan law and ensure it’s working for the public, not the other way around.”

“No county should be dumping its waste onto another county, especially when the dumping practice is a direct result of blatant mismanagement,” said Wozniak, R-Shelby Township. “It should go without saying that no county should be treated as a dumping ground by another. My home in Macomb may be most affected by this issue now – but this legislation would prohibit these disgusting practices from occurring across Michigan.”

“I don’t think people realize quite how damaging it would be if these paid sick time requirements actually happen. I owned and managed a law office for much of my professional career. I cannot imagine having to navigate these requirements, and I’m a lawyer. It would be impossible to maintain a productive office if employees could just choose to not show up and be legally protected from facing the consequences of those decisions. These are the type of backward policies that we’re committed to ensuring never actually become law.”

“Something about the state garnishing paychecks if workers don’t check a box doesn’t pass the smell test, regardless of how well intentioned it might be,” said Wozniak, R-Shelby Township. “Anyone can walk into a bank right now and sign up for a 401(k) program – it isn’t hard. Forcing small business owners to facilitate deposits into IRA accounts that no one asked for, and which workers may not even be fully aware of, is deceitful and a clear government overstep.”

“This legislation makes it easier for Michigan attorneys to create trust documents representing the intent of their clients,” said Wozniak, R-Shelby Township. “No one wants to worry that their wishes will not be honored after they pass because the court interprets a document differently than the person for whom it was created.”

“Imposing these restrictions on plumbers during devastating labor shortages would be a significant oversight on the part of state government,” said Wozniak, R-Shelby Township. “We should be exploring policy that encourages more people to get into the trades, not financially disincentivizing businesses already operating on tight budgets from hiring young professionals.”

“Construction personnel are tasked with fixing our roads in all sorts of weather while cars drive by just a few feet away. MDOT has a responsibility to ensure worksites are as safe as possible,” said Wozniak, R-Shelby Township. “The House Ethics and Oversight Committee must consider the shortcomings in MDOT’s follow-up, make certain all worksite crashes are thoroughly investigated, and guarantee all procedural failures are addressed and corrected.”

“We cannot continue letting Oakland County dump millions of gallons of sewage into Macomb County surface waters,” said Wozniak, R-Shelby Township. “Our next-door neighbor – one of the wealthiest counties in the country, has been glossing over this problem for decades, and the state has permitted it! Nothing is stopping Oakland County from committing resources to the wastewater system. If more of its residents knew what they were doing to Michigan’s waters, they would demand that the county take corrective action.”
